Well, the heat has arrived. Like all other years, we never really have a spring; it goes from cold to hot in one day. But that is okay. The flowers are blooming, the trees have reached their full cover, and it is light until 8:30 p.m. and light at 8 a.m.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Asher Savva, who celebrated June 21; Christian Fisher, June 22; Michael Calheta, June 25; and to Emanuelly Tomaz, who celebrates her day on June 26.

Congratulations to the 2020 eighth grade class of the Charter School who all graduated June 23. Best wishes as you travel on to high school.

I hope all the men had a great Father’s Day. My brother, Frank, mentioned on his Facebook page about our dad and his love for fishing and how he searched many seas for the big one.

It made me think back to all the nights before we moved to the Island that we came down to the Cape Cod Canal and he fished for many hours. He entertained me by telling me the way the train crossed the bridge that was so high up, was that the train went up the tower on one side, went across, then came back down on the other side. I sat for so long waiting for that train. I still smile every time we go by that bridge.

But he loved to fish Tashmoo and many nights went down to Katzenbach’s, off of Lambert’s Cove Road. When he would come home and we asked if he caught anything and he answered no, he would mention how beautiful the sky was and how the stars were shining bright. So, when I went with him one night, I looked over and there he was just standing looking at the sky, not even looking at his rod, and I knew that it wasn’t just the fishing he loved. It was just being out and appreciating the sky around him. He has been gone for many years, but the memories are still there.

Welcome home to John and Pat Rodgers as they made their way to Edgartown and are quarantining. We look forward to seeing you.

There are a lot of people around; please be safe and wear your masks to keep us all safe.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
