Island health officials reported one new positive coronavirus patient from the TestMV site and two more patients who had tested positive for viral antibodies on Monday, raising the Island’s total coronavirus case count to 52.
In their daily case update, board of health officials reported that TestMV, a comprehensive testing site at the regional high school, had reported a new positive coronavirus patient — the first in nearly a week.
The new Covid-19 patient is a male in his 30s, according to the report. The individual is the fourth patient to test positive at the high school testing site since opening to the public in late May. The site is focused on testing asymptomatic patients.
The site has now tested 2,293 patients, with four tests coming back positive, 2,137 negative and 152 pending.
According to a comprehensive weekly report that board of health officials make available every Friday, the individual is only one of two currently active coronavirus patients on-Island. All other coronavirus patients are no longer being monitored or have been released from isolation. More than half the positive cases on-Island were linked to another case through family or household groups.
TestMV is one of two coronavirus testing facilities on-Island. The other, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, is only testing symptomatic patients and their close contacts for the virus.
In their daily website update, the hospital reported that it has tested a total of 1,586 patients for the virus, with 28 tests coming back positive, 1553 coming back negative and five tests pending. There is currently no one hospitalized with the virus.
The hospital has not reported a positive case in over a month.
While antibody testing remains largely unavailable on-Island, public health officials reported that two more patients had tested positive for viral antibodies at facilities off-Island on Monday. Both individuals are in their 60s, according to the report; one is male and the other is female.
The two new antibody positive patients brings the total number of patients who have tested positive for viral antibodies to 15. Three patients have also been diagnosed with Coid-19 symptomatically.
The new cases come as coronavirus numbers statewide continue to level off and Gov. Charlie Baker’s gradual reopening process quickens. Updated state DPH case numbers were not immediately available due to technical issues, according to the state’s website.
The Vineyard experienced another busy weekend as it looked forward to an altered Fourth of July next Saturday, with beachgoers packing the Island’s sandy shores and restaurants and retailers continuing to expand their offerings.
