Beach days abound in Aquinnah and all around. Even in the rain, people are on the beaches. There has been such a drought that lawns are appearing as hay fields.
Seth Meyers will be the host on Sunday evening, July 26 at 5 p.m., for the 42nd annual Art Buchwald Impossible Dreams auction. The Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs is re-opening this weekend after being closed for the past four months due to the Covid-19 virus. The PA Club, as well as many other entities on the Vineyard and around the world, has experienced financial difficulties during the shutdown. The PA is an integral part of the Vineyard community and one of great benevolence. Many people have donated privately as well as on the GoFundMe page which is still active.
Skip Finley will be the guest speaker in the Summer Speakers series at Aquinnah Public Library on July 30 at 5 p.m. to present his latest book Whaling Captains of Color. Al Alley has arrived from Florida, much to the delight of his parents, Forrest Alley of Aquinnah and Emily Frank of Tisbury. Of course, he will be self-quarantining for two weeks prior to venturing out and about with his innumerable cousins.
Always nice to see the James Hubert family at their family home for the past week. They have since returned to their home in New York.
It is nice to see so many families have arrived for their summer sojourns.
Condolences to the family and friends of Margaret Searle Ditson, former co-worker at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, who passed away at the Cape Cod Hospital.
Condolences to the many friends of Duncan MacDonald who passed at the age of 105 this past week at the Henrietta Brewer House. Duncan was a resident of Aquinnah for about a decade on an adjoining lot on Attaquin Way. She enjoyed participating in town government while she was a resident in town but her co-founding of the Scottish Society of Martha’s Vineyard was her favorite.
Happy 67th anniversary wishes to Bill and Joan Kistner as they celebrate on July 25, welcoming their youngest great-grandchild, Natalie Skye Kistner, who was born on July 14, the daughter of William J. Kistner 3rd and Samantha.
