I am writing this letter to express my disappointment with the Edgartown conservation commission decision to terminate the lease with Trustees at Katama Farm. I am certain the commission is well intentioned but equally as certain the Trustees are well intentioned. We’ve been sending our kids to farm camp every summer for the past four years. Their experiences with the farm, nature, staff, and animals are so special — especially during these difficult times when every experience has become digital. They even educated the kids about the “sickly” goats and were so compassionate with the treatment of these animals. My oldest son has autism and we are appreciative of the inclusive environment the farm has created.

This feels like a victimless crime. To rip away the educational experiences over the count of livestock is abrupt. The community deserves a better solution from two well-intentioned organizations.
