Sept. 30 is the new deadline for young artists in kindergarten through 12th grade to enter their work in the Steamship Authority's fifth annual Sail Into Imagination art contest, according to an announcement from the boat line, which has extended the contest from the original April 30 deadline due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to having their art displayed in the calendar and on select ferries, 13 winners will be awarded a $100 SSA gift card. All entrants, regardless of whether they are chosen for the calendar, will also be entered to win a grand prize of a $150 VISA gift card.

The calendar contest is open to students from Falmouth, Hyannis, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, New Bedford and Fairhaven, but those from other Cape and Islands communities are invited to enter a special contest to be featured in the 2021 calendar.

Artwork by students from non-port towns will be judged in four categories: Best Use of Color, Most Innovative, Most Expressive and Most Imaginative.

Students are invited to submit entries online, through the mail or by dropping their submissions at Steamship Authority terminals no later than September 30. Entries submitted by postal mail may be addressed to the SSA’s Marketing Department at 509 Falmouth Road, Suite 1C, Mashpee, MA 02649. Winners will be announced on the Steamship Authority’s website in October.
