The Martha’s Vineyard Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded $80,500 in grants and donations to 10 nonprofits on Martha's Vineyard and in Falmouth, according to an announcement from the bank.

Harbor Homes Martha's Vineyard received funding to support this winter's housing, case management services and life training for formerly homeless Islanders, according to the announcement, and a donation to Healthy Aging Martha’s Vineyard will be used to help elderly Islanders add safety features such as grab-bars and ramps to their existing homes.

The Friends of Vineyard Haven Library will receive funding to pay for “live tutors,” available to learners of any age.  This service is free to any library card holder of one of the six Island libraries.

A donation to the Red Stocking Fund will assist in the program for the 2020 holiday season and the Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living will use its grant funds for additional dementia and Alzheimer’s support groups. 

Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard’s donation will assist the continuation of its work with end-of-life care. Martha’s Vineyard Mediation will use its funds to further help families communicate better with a four-session informational series on how to approach difficult intergenerational conversations.

Although the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Sullivan 5K Run/Walk did not happen this year due to the pandemic, the foundation still made a donation. Contributions also went to the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce and the Falmouth Housing Trust.

The charitable foundation's grants committee meets quarterly to consider grants in the areas of education, economic development, health and human services, culture, art and historic heritage and community services.

The deadline for the next cycle of funding is Nov. 17. The application is online at mvbank.com.
