The state of Massachusetts has announced $500,000 in grants to regional agricultural organizations that are members of the statewide Buy Local Coalition, including Island Grown Initiative, which is receiving $13,270.

IGI will use the funds to work with the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society, the West Tisbury Farmers Market and Slough Farm Foundation to promote and increase direct consumer access to farmers, provide up-to-date information on local farms and purchase and process locally grown and raised food products for food equity distribution, according to the announcement.

Eight other regional organizations also received grants, ranging from $31,026 to Sustainable CAPE in Truro to $76,500 for Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture in western Massachusetts.
