We may never know what caused it to happen, but after little Jenny wriggled out of her harness on Lucy Vincent Beach for her “call of the wild” adventure she tromped around town for give or take a week before being captured on High Mark. Perhaps she had this sudden urge to go fast and far and knew her human, Zivah Solomon, wasn’t going to be able to take her, quite literally, over the river and through the woods.

Over the course of the week Jenny was spotted making the rounds at various residences around Beetlebung Corner. She spent some time at the house of Zeb Flanders — also known as Julie Flanders’s German Shepherd — and was temped to cross the threshold into the kitchen for one more meal, but her skittish personality got the best of her and she was off and running. Jennifer Burkin had a siting on Middle Road by Keith’s Field and various other folks mentioned having seen her. Regardless, little Jenny’s adventure has come to an end and she’s home snuggled up with her humans in Vineyard Haven.

Despite the chill in the air, the wind that blows and the rain that falls, Squid Row is still a spot for folks to distantly gather, have a hot cup of coffee and swap stories. Paul, Beth, Noah, Ellen, Daron, Truman, Jack, Tucker, Joe, Ed, Margaret, John, Wayne, John, Steve, Chris, Nick, Will and various others all take turns cycling through for a chat about the babies in their lives, mending pots, elderly parents, virtual school and, yes, sometimes politics. The goal is to always remain cordial, but sometimes things get heated. The intent, however, is to have a conversation rather than a one sided lecture and to always walk away friends regardless. It’s not always easy.

Well wishes to Roberta Morgan who was a bit under the weather earlier this week. She will probably consider this making a fuss over her which she always frowns upon, but nevertheless she’s deserving of a fuss.
