Aquinnah selectmen have set Saturday, Dec. 19 as the new date for a special town meeting.

Rescheduled from last month, the meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in the town hall. Meeting Tuesday, selectmen said they will meet again next week to discuss temporarily reducing the quorum.

In other business Tuesday, selectmen unanimously approved a single tax rate of $6.39 for fiscal year 2021.

Last year, the tax rate was $6.81 for every $1,000 of assessed valuation. Principal assessor Harald Scheid said the drop this year is to offset rising valuations on single family homes.

In FY20, the average single family home in Aquinnah was valued at $1.3 million with an annual tax bill of $9,013, he said. In FY21, the average home is valued at $1.4 million, and will see an annual tax bill of $9,152, an increase of 1.5 per cent.
