Aquinnah selectmen this week temporarily reduced the town quorum to 10 registered voters for the upcoming special town meeting.

The meeting is Saturday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. in the town hall.

The usual quorum is 43 voters. “That’s a lot of people to have for a meeting,” said selectmen Jim Newman at the selectmen’s meeting Tuesday. “I think it would be unfair to ask for a meeting and to have that many people.”

In other business, selectmen reappointed Kathy Newman as the town representative to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission. This will mark Ms. Newman’s 13th year representing Aquinnah on the commission.
