On Nov. 21 our husband and father, Kevin Brennan, fell off a ladder truck and sustained some very serious injuries. The Oak Bluffs and Edgartown first responders reacted quickly at the scene, and Kevin was airlifted to Brigham and Women’s in Boston.

Kevin is now home and making great progress towards recovery. There are so many people to thank for their support and caring during this stressful journey, everyone who checked in and helped us stay fed this past month. Thanks to Oak Bluffs EMS for providing rides to and from Boston and for having Thanksgiving dinner delivered to our hotel. We’d like to especially recognize Matt Bradley — first lieutenant and paramedic, Tad Medeiros and Belle Dinning, EMTs, and Charles Sweet and Kyle Gatchell, paramedics from Oak Bluffs EMS, and Kevin Maciel, Steve Foster and Sam Koch from Edgartown fire for going above and beyond on that day and afterwards.

The emergency department team at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital should also be commended — a special thanks to Dr. Karen Casper for her professionalism and insight. Kevin has been part of a first responder community for over 30 years, about five years with Oak Bluffs. They have welcomed him and our family with open arms.

It has been humbling to experience firsthand what our first responders do every day to help others. We are so grateful to be a part of this beloved community and realize even more that there is nowhere else we’d rather be.
