A Tisbury man is facing criminal charges, including assault on a police officer, after a skirmish at an Oak Bluffs restaurant and bar spilled into Circuit avenue Saturday night.

Trevor Maciel, 27, of Vineyard Haven was arraigned in Edgartown district court on May 17 on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, intimidating a witness/juror/police/court official and malicious destruction of property under $1,200. Bail was set at $300.

The incident occurred on May 16 when Oak Bluffs police were called to the Cardboard Box restaurant on Circuit avenue to intervene in a fight on the premises. When police attempted to speak with Trevor Maciel’s father, Troy, about the incident, the defendant interfered with police, pushing officer Seth Harlow, according to an Oak Bluffs police report filed in court.

The report said Mr. Maciel resisted arrest from the ground and broke Officer Harlow’s portable radio device during the altercation. He was ultimately placed in handcuffs after officers proposed using a taser, the report said.

Once on the street, Mr. Maciel began yelling profanities, causing a scene and continuing to resist arrest while other bar patrons looked on, according to the report.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for July 2.
