Everyone is welcome to attend the dedication of a sculpture in honor of Richard S. Knight Jr. on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Chappaquiddick Community Center. The sculpture of granite and bronze is called Earth House Hold.

It was created by Murray (Mac) Dewart, an American sculptor best known for his large, gate-like structures in granite and bronze that have been installed in parks, gardens and museums in the U.S. and other countries. His sculptures look at home in the natural world, representing a quest for inner and outer harmony.

Mac and Dick Knight were great friends for over 60 years. Mac’s father was a minister, as was Dick’s. His family spent many summers at Mrs. Welch’s Webquish cottage, where the children made many enduring friendships with others living on Chappy. The artist has donated Earth House Hold in memory of Dick Knight and in honor of his many contributions to the Chappaquiddick Community Center over his lifetime.

The Chappy Ferry Steering Committee is considering a new approach in defining residency for the resident ticket program. Eligibility for the resident discount for vehicles would depend on whether one is a legal resident of Chappy. Proof of legal residency would simply be a driver’s license and car registration, both with a Chappy address.

The Committee is conducting this survey to get a better handle on the number of potential additional participants in the Resident Rate Discount Program. Use the following link to participate in the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PDJ2C88
