The Dukes County commission and Nantucket county commission will host a joint hearing tonight on a state bill to amend the Steamship Authority legislation.

The hearing begins at 5 p.m. over Zoom.

The bill sponsored by state Rep. Dylan Fernandes and state Sen Julian Cyr would add a chief operating officer to senior management and put term limits on members of the SSA governing board.

The boat line decided at its meeting last month to add the COO position, which was recommended by an independent management study done four years ago.

It is unclear whether Mr. Fernandes of Mr. Cyr will attend the hearing. At a county commission meeting last week, Ms. Thornton said neither had responded to requests.
