The two distant planets Jupiter and Mars will be less than a degree apart on Sunday morning. Grant it, you have to rise early to see it. The two are spectacularly close, appearing within ear shout of each other.
Well before dawn, the two appear fairly high in the southeastern sky. Brighter of the two, Venus is to the East.
We’ve been watching this conjunction for weeks now. Sunday morning is the best. Don’t be discouraged if the sky is overcast, any morning is great for seeing these two planets so close.
The actual distance we have from these planets is remarkable, considering how close they appear together. It is truly a fabulous lineup.
Jupiter is 486 million miles away from us. Mars is 130 million miles from us. Which means that while these two planets appear almost touching, they are 356 million miles from each other.
