When Davin Tackabury died in 2019, during his senior year at the regional high school, hundreds of people crowded into the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center to pay tribute and remember a talented young artist and friend to all. Inside the Hebrew Center the walls were covered with Davin’s photographs: a shiny frog on a leaf, the shadow of a window grate against an orange wall, pendulous buoys hanging from the side of a boat. There were also portraits of friends, many of whom were in attendance that day.

Soon after, in 2020, Davin’s parents created a scholarship for emerging artists on the Vineyard looking to pursue a college degree in the visual or performing arts. This weekend, Featherstone Center for the Arts presents an exhibit that includes work from many of those scholarship recipients along with established local artists. The exhibit is called Emerge! and it is both a celebration of art, its beauty and power, and a fundraiser for the scholarship fund.

The reception is from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 5 at Featherstone and the exhibit continues through June 26. All the art is for sale, with 40 per cent of the proceeds going to the Davin A. Tackabury Scholarship Fund.
