Journalist Richard Read married school administrator Brenda Griswold on Sept. 19 at Seven Gates Farm, where Mr. Read’s family has had ties for more than a century.

Brenda, 55, is director of communications at the West Seattle Montessori School outside Seattle, where the couple lives.

Richard, 65, is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. He continues freelance reporting after retiring last year from his position as Seattle bureau chief for the Los Angeles Times.

The couple’s first dates included dinner and a Queen concert. They were engaged a year later.

Rich’s great-grandmother’s family first visited the Seven Gates community as summer renters in 1907, becoming one of six families to incorporate the property in 1921.

The wedding was officiated by Rich’s uncle, Jefferson Eaton, of Lincoln. Guests took a sunset sail on the Alabama schooner; attended a rehearsal dinner at the former home of Rich’s late grandparents, Ted and Bobbie Dreier; and dined after the wedding ceremony at The Sweet Life Café in Oak Bluffs.

Mr. and Mrs. Read plan to honeymoon in Portugal, Morocco and Botswana.
