A Chilmark man who was arrested last summer on charges of child rape, statutory rape and indecent assault and battery was sentenced Thursday to a year in the Dukes County House of Corrections followed by three years’ probation.

Wayne V. Iacono 2nd, 31, was arrested by Chilmark police in July 2021. Charges filed by Chilmark police were later prosecuted by the Cape and Islands District Attorney office, according to Edgartown District Court.

Mr. Iacono was charged with three counts, including rape of a child by force, statutory rape of a child, aggravated and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older. On Sept. 29, Mr. Iacono pleaded guilty to the indecent assault and battery charge; the commonwealth did not pursue prosecution of other two counts, entering a nolle prosequi to the charges.

Mr. Iacono was sentenced Thursday by the Hon. John Julian.

Mr. Iacono is to serve one year in the house of corrections followed by a three-year probation during which his remaining sentence will be suspended. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Updated to clarify that the prosecution entered nolle prosequi to two of the charges.
