Polly Hill Arboretum on State Road in West Tisbury invites the community to its grounds on Saturday, Dec. 3 for its second annual Holiday Wreath Celebration. The free outdoor event takes place from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. and offers wintertime nature crafts, opportunities to create plant-based holiday decorations, and a bonfire.

The central activity will be creating and decorating an eight-foot evergreen wreath with berries, cones, leaves and other natural materials gathered from the arboretum grounds. The completed wreath will be hung on the east wall of the arboretum’s historic Far Barn. The wreath will be lit at the end of the event. Its lights will be visible to passersby on State Road throughout the holiday season.

Participants can also make their own holiday gifts to take home, with greenery and decorative plant material collected from the arboretum grounds. For children, a peanut butter and pinecone birdfeeder craft will be available, and a storytime session will feature winter-themed pictures books. Cider and cookies will be served to all.

A cozy fire near the Far Barn will provide ambiance and warmth but visitors are encouraged to dress warmly since this is an outdoor event. In case of rain, the event will be held inside the barn. If weather is particularly bad and the event is canceled, a notice will be posted on the arboretum’s website.
