After a four-month-long closure, the Island’s only dry cleaning business reopened earlier this month with two new owners.

Lapels Cleaners, which stopped dry cleaning services in February due to staff shortages, announced last week that Island residents Marcia DeSousa and Suely Oliveria will co-own the store alongside longtime owners Greg and Megan Carroll.

In addition to dry cleaning, Lapels offers regular laundry services, tailoring, shoe repairs, leather processing and more. It also specializes in a non-toxic dry cleaning process that produces no hazardous waste, the company said. The business did continue to provide other laundry services during the closure, but left the mainland as the only option for dry cleaning.

“We’re so happy to be back providing laundry and dry cleaning services to Vineyard residents and visitors,” said Ms. DeSousa in the announcement. “As the only cleaner offering dry cleaning services on the Island, I know it was difficult for our customers.”

Lapels is located in Vineyard Haven and is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
