The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Dukes County Thursday, naming Vineyard Haven as one of the places prone to flooding.

The watch goes into effect at 2 p.m. today and will remain active until Friday morning, with areas of the state expected to receive between two and four inches of rain.

According to the weather service announcement, potential impacts may include “excessive runoff causing flooding of streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” especially in poorly draining urban areas.

The weather service recommends that people in affected areas watch for later forecasts, and that residents of affected areas be prepared to act in the event of flooding.
