One of the favorite and small meteor showers of the season takes place in the wee hours of Ssaturday morning. Step outside after midnight tomorrow morning for a fairly nice show. Bundle up, get a hot cup of chocolate and sit in one of your summer easy beach chairs. You may see upwards of 15 meteors in an hour of viewing, though that seems optimistic.

The shower is named for the constellation Leo, where the meteors appear to originate. The constellation doesn't rise until well after midnight but you can see a meteor in the dark any time.

The meteors are small pieces of dust associated with the dust trail of the elliptical orbiting periodic Comet 55P/Temple-Tuttle. The comet's orbit takes 200 years to complete and thus goes far out into space, like Halley's Comet.

Leo is a constellation we associate with early spring. The constellation is in the zodiac and commands a lot of space. Many identify the constellation with a mirror version of a question mark. That feature marks the head of the lion.

If you are out that hour, look up for the brilliant and prominent planet Jupiter residing this winter in the constellation Aries.
