Good news! The 2024 Chappy Community Center calendars will be available by the time you read this. Order online through the CCC website. They can be sent anywhere you like or you can pick them up at the center.

The annual Chappy Ferry Captain and Crew appreciation dinner is next Wednesday, Dec. 20 at the CCC from 6 to 8 p.m. Please take this opportunity to spend more than the usual one minute with the ferry folks who brave wind, rain and snow to get you across the harbor safely. Please bring a dish to serve eight. Potlucks will continue throughout the winter on the third Wednesday of each month.

Check out the Slip Away Farm website for job opportunities for the 2024 growing season. Perhaps you or someone that you know would love to have the wonderful experience of farming. And the biggest plus, it’s on Chappy!

Last Friday, Santa, Mrs. Claus and Rudolph arrived in Edgartown via the Chappy Ferry just in time to help with the countdown to lighting the lighthouse. Memorial Wharf was crowded with delighted children and grown-ups. Thanks to the Edgartown Board of Trade for bringing so much joyous activity to an otherwise very quiet part of town.

Keep in mind that the traditional Chappy Ferry schedule for Christmas morning is on the hour. First run is at 7 a.m. Starting at noon, the normal winter schedule resumes.

Just a decade ago that hourly schedule applied to the entire day. Nowadays there is so much traffic in the afternoon that the ferry captain doesn’t have time to go back home to be with family between trips.
