I support Article 87 — Large Events in Residential Neighborhoods — that is scheduled for vote at town meeting on April 9. Thanks to everyone who worked on the draft of Article 87.

Article 87 will help the town reduce noise pollution and parking and traffic congestion that large events in residential neighborhoods cause. Passage of Article 87 as it appears in the town warrant is important to everyone’s enjoyment of residential neighborhoods in Edgartown.

Jane Bradbury suggested in a letter to the Gazette last week that Article 87, allowing two large events per month without special permits and a total of five per calendar year does not go far enough to protect residential neighborhoods in every part of town. I agree.

Ms. Bradbury suggests that a limit of one unpermitted, large event per month should be enacted. She intends to introduce an amendment to that effect.

Please also vote “yes” on Article 87, and to Ms. Bradbury’s amendment to Article 87 limiting to one unpermitted, large event per month.
