Wonderful news from some of our most accomplished Islanders. More than 10 years ago Jay Grande became our town of Tisbury administrator. Jay is headed for a well-earned retirement. Thank you, Jay, for all your good work for us.
Lisa Knight took on many subjects. She is now a retired teacher. She taught health. She coached the Special Olympics, field hockey, basketball and softball. She was a delight to all her students at our high school. Lisa has been awarded a MIAA Distinguished Service Award. Congratulations, Lisa.
Big announcement. The poster for our Agricultural Fair in August 2024 has been chosen. Year-round and full-time artist, Oak Bluffs resident, Traeger di Pietro has captured the magic of the fair in his drawing. Family, livestock, children — the poster presents all. Another one to add to our collections.
An event we eagerly await will be this Saturday. The junior class of our high school working with MVCS will hold an electronics and shredding day this Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will not accept lawn tools that held propane or gasoline. Papers for shredding must be able to fit into a standard file box. However, you do not need to bring them in a file box. You may contact and prepay ahead of time. Get your closets, sheds and garages cleaned out.
A reminder that visiting hours for Marion Cardoza are from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 17 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations. Her funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18. The celebration of her life will be at our VFW. I’ll see you there.
Anniversary bouquets go out to Tom Spiconardi and Patty Mead. They celebrated their 22nd on May 11.
The birthday bandwagon pulled along Kathy Landers on May 12, Jeffrey Duarte and Judith Campbell celebrated on May 13, and Lowely Finnerty and Rob Gronkowski took the cake on May 14. Many happy returns.
