A busy August in Oak Bluffs and Falmouth is causing service changes for the Steamship Authority.

Ferry trips will be diverted from Oak Bluffs to Vineyard Haven due to the annual fireworks at Ocean Park on Friday, August 16. The 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. departures from Woods Hole as well as at the 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. returning boats to the mainland will be diverted to the Tisbury terminal.

That Sunday, August 18, will also see changes to traffic because of the Falmouth Road Race. The Steamship Authority asks travelers to plan ahead for delays along Palmer avenue and Woods Hole Road. Access to the Woods Hole Terminal via Woods Hole Road will be limited in the morning and closed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for the race.

The 6:30 a.m. trip from Woods Hole will leave 10 minutes early at 6:20 a.m. The authority also asks travelers to arrive at the terminal by 8 a.m. if they are taking any ferry scheduled from 8:15 to 9:50 that morning. Inbound vehicles must have a printout of their ferry reservation to present to the Falmouth Police Department to access the ferry terminal.

Passengers from Martha’s Vineyard will not be able to leave the Woods Hole Terminal until the roads reopen if they are on the 8:15 a.m., 8:35 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. ferries. The ferry scheduled to leave Oak Bluffs at 7:30 a.m. will leave at 7:15 a.m. Traffic from this boat will be allowed to leave the terminal in Woods Hole.
