The Martha’s Vineyard Commission and the Community Preservation Coalition will host a panel Sept. 5 to highlight Island housing efforts and explain best practices and recent developments involving the Community Preservation Act.

Speakers will include MVC housing planner Laura Silber and statewide CPC executive director Stuart Saginor.

Programming will start at 5 p.m. at the West Tisbury Public Safety Building.

The Community Preservation Act is designed to help communities preserve historic sites and open space, create affordable housing and increase housing opportunities and construction jobs to strength the economy. Town voters can vote on where and how the funds are used in their communities.

The CPC works with local and state governments to support the preservation of a community through the Act, which was approved and signed by legislature in 2000.
