The Katama General Store, a frequent stop for beachgoers headed to South Beach in Edgartown, is on the market for sale.
Owned by Jackie and Doug Korell, the 3,000-square foot barn-style building and .67-acre property on Katama Road is listed on LINK, the Island’s multiple listing service, with an asking price of $5.5 million.
The Korells bought the property in 2012, and had been operating it for 15 years before that. The red barnlike building, formerly a farm and garden store and a laundromat, was demolished and rebuilt in 2016. The store reopened the following year.
The real estate listing describes 950 square feet of retail space and a large porch popular with patrons. In addition to being a small-town market, the store sold alcohol and had a commercial kitchen.
EXP Realty has the exclusive listing; Janet Scott and Anne Osterholm are the listing brokers.
The sale includes the building and all the equipment, fixtures and furnishings.
The property was assessed at $2.42 million in 2023, according to the listing, with the land valued at $884,440 and the building valued at $1.53 million.
Contacted by email last week, Ms. Korell declined to comment.
