Monday was a beautiful day for golf in the heart of the Berkshires as Nick Rabeni represented the Vineyard in the Division Two golf championship at the Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.

The senior shot an 82 and finished 44th out of 97 competitors. The highlight of his round was on the back nine when he made two consecutive birdies. The private course features hilly terrain surrounded by mountain views with creeks and ponds to maneuver around for an added challenge.

Friday night the football team picked up a big divisional win over Monomoy at home. The Vineyarders beat the Sharks 33-14 as William Nicholson tossed two touchdowns to Matthew MacMillan and rushed for a third. Guilherme Oliveira was a force in the ground attack and punched in two scores. On defense, Caio Guimaraes had an interception and a sack and Harrison Lazarus tallied two sacks as well.

The first half was a battle of wills as both teams traded blows until the Sharks pulled ahead and almost had a two touchdown lead. But a holding penalty negated a long Monomoy touchdown run and the Vineyard defense put the clamps on from there on out. The offense scored four unanswered touchdowns and Purple sailed into the night victorious.

Up next is another divisional clash with Saint John Paul II on Halloween night. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

The boys soccer team strung together a series of quality wins last week as they topped Nauset, Falmouth and Bourne in three straight shutouts. Against Nauset, the goal scorers were Matheus Lacerda, Aeneas Forrester and Lucas Sousa. On the road against Falmouth, Chris Marcal and Kaua De Oliviera powered the Vineyarders to victory and finally, also on the cape against Bourne, Lacerda netted the lone goal in the win.

This weekend, the boys will be at home defending their Golden Anchor trophy against Nantucket. That clash is set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Nantucket has already beaten the Vineyard this season, and the rematch is shaping up to be a good one.

The girls soccer team will also defend their Golden Anchor Saturday at 12:30 p.m. before the boys kickoff. Recently, the girls have notched wins over Barnstable and Falmouth, beating the Red Hawks 6-0 and the Clippers 2-1.

Against Barnstable, Sydney Bruguiere scored twice while Eleanor Mone, Reese Malowski, Laina Dubin and Ava Townes all added goals as well. The Vineyarders racked up 39 shots on goal while dominating time of possession.

Then at home against Falmouth last Thursday, Charlotte Sebastian netted the first score of the match off a rebound giving the Vineyarders a lead before the half. Midway through the second half, Bruguiere set up Malowski for a shot on the left side of the box which she launched just below the crossbar for the winning goal. Goalkeeper Delilah Oliver was solid in net with 11 saves on the night as well.

The field hockey team had its fourth win of the season Saturday taking down Seekonk at home 2-0. Brynn Savva scored her first goal of the season in the win and Abby  Geary tacked on another. Sierra Flanders earned the shutout in net for the Vineyard.

On Thursday the girls play Falmouth on the road before their final game of the season against Nantucket Saturday at home. With a Golden Anchor on the line, the action gets underway starting at 10:30 a.m.

Finally, the cross country team raced with Barnstable through the Manuel Correllus State Forest last Wednesday and Emma Squire and Paul Steyre both took home the top spot for the Vineyard. Squire finished the 5K track in 21:33 and Steyer in 17:23.

Steyer also finished 9th out of 112 in the Catholic Memorial Invitational in Franklin Park on Saturday with a time of 17:11.2 in the varsity 5K. Freshman Noah Burns finished 24th out of 104 other freshmen in the 3K race.

The last big meet of the cross country season comes on Nov. 2 at the Wrentham Developmental Center for the Frank Mooney Invitational.
