The Martha’s Vineyard Children’s Film Festival arrives this weekend, hosted by Circuit Arts.

The festival takes place at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday with a screening of Dancing Queen.

On Saturday, activities start at 2 p.m., with the feature film Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The event is a stand in for the popular Cinema Circus event which catered to families, according to marketing and production coordinator Isabella Iaccarino.

“We were really excited to do something for the kids and unfortunately weren’t able to do Cinema Circus this year,” she said. “What makes [this] different is we have such a great selection of short films and we are also showing features which we haven’t done in awhile.”

On Saturday from 4 to 5 p.m., kids will have the chance to meet horse Tony Smalls, a miniature horse who paints, and attend a film workshop led by creative director Danielle Mulcahy.

“She is going to be doing the film workshops on direct animation,” Ms. Iaccarino said. “It’s an old art form where you take film strips and you scratch and draw on it and then you put the strips together and it makes a film.”

Ms. Iaccarino said the whole Circuit Arts team is looking forward to hosting the event.

“I feel like there’s something for everyone and we are excited to be hosting an event for kids and celebrating creativity,” she said.

The festival will take place at the Grange Hall November 8-9. The event is free and attendees are encouraged to reserve their tickets for the feature films. Visit circuitarts.org for more information.
