A Vineyard man wanted for murder in Connecticut was arraigned in Edgartown District Court Thursday on two charges for alleged crimes committed on the Island.

Jared Ravizza, who has been indicted for multiple crimes off-Island, attended the hearing by Zoom from the Plymouth County House of Corrections where he is detained. He pleaded not guilty to one count of assault and battery on a household member and another count of vandalizing property.

Judge Benjamin C. Barnes set the bail at $500.

“I understand that nothing we do today is going to affect Mr. Ravizza’s incarceration status,” said Casey Dobel who was appointed as his attorney.

The Vineyard charges stem from an incident on April 14 when police responded to a call from Mr. Ravizza’s father, Jason Ravizza. He told police that his son had a mental break and attacked him in their West Tisbury home.

“I began to notice fresh marks on [Jason’s] face just above his eyebrow as well as marks on his thumb and wrist...” wrote West Tisbury police officer William Fielder in the report. “Mr. Jason Ravizza invited me upstairs to see his office where I noticed bureaus knocked over and out of place, as [were] documents scattered on the floor. The door to the room had also been broken [and] there were stools that had been thrown across the room and had damaged the walls.”

According to the police report, Mr. Ravizza appeared clearly intoxicated and became aggressive when police questioned him. Officers detained him out of concern for their safety and transported him to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for mental health evaluation.

The police report stated that Mr. Ravizza did not meet the standards to be held at the hospital, and he was transported to the Dukes County Jail and later released.

At Thursday’s hearing Mr. Ravizza was scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Jan. 21 for his West Tisbury charges.

In June, Mr. Ravizza was arraigned on four counts of assault to murder and four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Quincy District Court. The charges stem from an incident where Mr. Ravizza allegedly stabbed four children at an AMC movie theatre in Braintree on May 25.

He was also indicted for two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count each of assault to murder and indecent exposure for allegedly stabbing two employees at a roadside McDonald’s in Plymouth a few hours after the Braintree stabbings.

Mr. Ravizza is also a suspect for killing 70-year-old Bruce Feldman and two dogs in Deep River, Conn.
