The brilliant moon passes near the bright planet Jupiter tonight and passes by it tomorrow nith. The moon is almost full tomorrow, or to be more precise it will be full Sunday at 4 o'clock in the morning. Having these two celestial objects rising in the eastern sky well after sunset will be an astronomical spectacle. The two are near the constellations Taurus and Gemini, the bright stars of the zodiac.
On Tuesday night, look again later in the evening. The gibbous moon rising in the east, appears near the bright red planet Mars. If you ever wanted a more perfect guide to finding this red planet, Tuesday night offers a great opportunity. The two are close. Mars is only a month away from being at its closest to the earth. Mars reaches opposition, the closest on January 16. The planet hasn't been this close since January of two years ago.
