A trio of men are facing charges after police investigated an alleged unlicensed tattoo parlor in Chilmark being run by a teenager.

Earlier this month, Chilmark police received an anonymous tip that a 16-year girl old was tattooing high schoolers at a home on Abel’s Neck Road, according to a Chilmark police report. The tipster stated that they had seen some of the tattoos become infected, and the artist was not using safe and sanitary conditions, police wrote.

Police were provided pictures of the teenager’s work, and found social media accounts promoting the business.

Officers went to the teenager’s home to talk to the mother and found the teen tattooing a man, later identified as Kamel Timmons, 20, of Oak Bluffs. Another man, Kamari Clements, was on a couch in the unlicensed basement parlor.

As police went to search the home, the mother said there was a gun in the basement that she claimed belonged to Mr. Clements, according to the report.

Police obtained warrants to search for the gun and tattoo equipment, and when they entered they found professional-looking tattoo equipment, empty bottles of alcohol, bongs and other drug paraphernalia, police wrote.

After a thorough search, officers also found a black assault-style rifle tucked partially under the couch, with an extended magazine.

Police later received video camera stills that showed Mr. Clements entering the apartment and showing the teenage tattooer the gun, police wrote.

Police went on to search Mr. Clements’s family home and Mr. Clements was issued a court summons for charges of possession of a firearm without a FID card and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

During a search of Mr. Timmons’s home, police allegedly finding plastic bags, a digital scale, cash and a white powdery substance in a clear plastic bag.

Mr. Timmons was charged with possession of a firearm without a FID card, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device and possession to distribute a class B drug. He pleaded not guilty in court on Feb. 13 and his bail was set at $500. He is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on March 13.

After the search of Mr. Timmons’s home, police also charged Brooks Timmons, 50, of Oak Bluffs with distributing a class B drug. He pleaded not guilty to the charge on Feb. 13 and has a pretrial hearing on April 28.

Chilmark police Chief Sean Slavin did not immediately respond to a request for comment on if there would be any charges connected to the alleged unlicensed tattoo operation.
