The earth’s elements will be showcased on ice this weekend, as figure skaters of all ages perform at the Martha’s Vineyard Figure Skating Club for its 36th annual ice show.

This year’s theme is Nature’s Symphony, where elements of fire, wind, water and earth intertwines with all the skating routines, both in the skater’s costumes and in the music selection.

Shows take place at the Ice Arena on Friday, April 4 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m.

Co-directors Beth O’Connor and Jane Taylor begin planning the show in November.

“We start [thinking] about a theme and what we think we’re going to have for group numbers and soloists, and start to piece it that way,” Ms. O’Connor said. “Then we start making a list of music.”

From learn to skate to the bridge program to freestyle, all levels of skaters have the opportunity to perform in the show in group and solo numbers.

“It’s going to reflect a lot of all of their work,” Ms. O’Connor said.

With an inventory of costumes that grows every year, Ms. O’Connor looks forward to seeing the skaters’ excitement as the show nears.

“[I’m most excited] for all of it coming together and seeing all the kids’ reactions to the costumes and how much fun they have in the show,” she said.
