Voters in West Tisbury passed a $1.6 million override at the annual town election Thursday.
The override, proposed by the town to deal with spending increases and the need for new positions in town hall, was approved 248 to 150, according to the unofficial tally.
The funding request will help to pay for a new fire protection officer, facilities manager and local inspector, town officials said before the election.
In a 280-115 vote, residents also approved a $200,000 debt exclusion question to pay for HVAC repairs at the West Tisbury School and the removal of the bell tower at the Chilmark School.
With the funding questions approved by voters, the town is set for the upcoming fiscal year, town administrator Jennifer Rand said.
“It’s a year like any other,” she said. “The budget has been set and voted and approved by the voters and we go about business as usual.”
A second debt exclusion question on the ballot asked to approve $700,000 for a feasibility study that would look at the future of the West Tisbury School. While the question did pass in a 184-155 vote at the election, it was moot because the proposal failed at town meeting.
The only contested race at Thursday’s election was for a seat on the board of health. Daniel Sauer won the three-year term over Peter D’Angelo by a vote of 212 to 137.
John Rau ran uncontested for a seat on the planning board. He had been appointed by the select board in January after the death of Ginny Jones.
