The weather has been warm enough that I cautiously (so as not too chase away the warm weather), started to bring out the summer clothes. It is that inbetween sweatshirt and tee shirt season, but it is nice not to have to wear a heavy jacket. I refuse to put the snow shovel away until June 1st. The last time I put it away too early we got six inches of snow.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Adeline Chandler, Cecilia Carletti and Sophia Pimenta, who celebrated May 3, Quinn Millard, Sajada Fair, May 5, Eamon Murphy, May 7 and to Kavel Mehta who celebrated his day May 8.
After looking and seeing people around town you know it is spring. The lilies of the valley are starting to bloom, our seasonal customers — like Peter from Chappaquiddick — are coming in to buy their seasonal flowers, the trucks are unloading at the Atlantic, Vineyard Vines has their spring clothes in the front window, Murdock Fudge is open, the fishing boats are changing their gear from scalloping to fishing gear, the Seafood Shanty umbrellas are standing like soldiers waiting to be open for the summer, roads are being repaved, landscaping trucks are on many streets with the workers putting new mulch in their clients yards, painters are sprucing up the white fences, the bees are buzzing around the spring flowers, your wearing less clothes as the days get warmer and still the long sleeves for the cooler nights, and hummingbirds have been spotted at the feeders.
You refuse to turn on the heat, so it is colder in the house than it is outside, you hear the ping of the baseball bat at the parks, the biplane has been spotted in the air, the summer neighbors lights are on and the J-1 students have arrived at the Stop & Shop. The grass is greener, so it is time to tune up the law mower, the patio furniture is filling up the deck and window boxes are being filled with spring flowers to replace the greens from Christmas. Yes, it is spring, and the Island is coming alive.
Have great week and keep the home candles burning.
