Tonight's gibbous moon appears near the bright star Spica. The two are a close pair in the zodiacal constellation Virgo, a constellation we associate with spring. The moon moves from Virgo into the constellation Libra and will be full on Monday.
We call this phase the Honey Moon and its brilliance will dominate the night through the coming week.
Northern Lights
We've noted that the sun has been active in the past week, bringing the possibility of Northern Lights to places in New England. With a bright moon shining in our sky, the likelihood of seeing this unusual phenomena this far south, at our latitude, is low. Still, we've seen photographs posted online by observers not that far north of us.
There is always a chance. When you are outside in the nights ahead, take an extra moment to look for these floating curtains in the North.
