A possible new design for the controversial Woods Hole terminal and an array of other business items top a packed agenda for the Steamship Authority governors, who will hold two public meetings Tuesday.

The regular monthly board meeting takes place in the Hyannis terminal at 1:30 p.m. Boat line governors will hear an update on the $60 million Woods Hole reconstruction project and are expected to take action on the winter and spring operating schedules for next year, among other things.

Then a special meeting has been called for 5:30 p.m. to review public feedback and hear a proposal for a new design of the Woods Hole terminal, which has come under fire from Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard residents alike.

That meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Falmouth High School at 874 Gifford street. The terminal design is the sole item on the agenda.

A 79-page report written by general manager Robert Davis has been posted on the SSA website along with a 20-page report from the Woods Hole Group, an engineering consulting firm that was hired to evaluate the shoreside terminal project.

Free transportation will be provided for Islanders wishing to attend, on either the 3:45 p.m. ferry from Oak Bluffs or the 4:05 p.m. ferry out of Vineyard Haven. Bus transportation will be available to and from the high school.

The meetings come at a time when the boat line is under public pressure from many sides following a management study late last year that found an entrenched culture that has resisted change among upper management.

The report from consultants at HMS was released last December. The SSA later contracted with HMS to help carry out the recommendations for change.
