Summer days are still being enjoyed in Aquinnah despite the calendar, with temperatures in the 70s all week and sunshine each day. The beaches are as crowded as ever and the tour buses and vans are abundant at the cliffs. Aquinnah Police Officer Bradley Fielder has won the prize for the most photographed in Aquinnah over the summer.

This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a free first aid training at the Aquinnah town hall, as part of the training program of the town’s community emergency response team. Call 508-645-2300 if you would like to participate. This is the first of a two-part first aid training series. The second training will be on Saturday, Oct. 26. Both trainings will be led by our town emergency manager Gary Robinson, assisted by Noli Taylor and the CERT team.

Warren Woesner will be the featured artist the Edgartown Library on Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. reading from his newest poetry Exit Sky collection. Lanny McDowell will present his photography while David Stanwood entertains on the piano.

Aquinnah is seeking a volunteer to help the arts community of the Vineyard. The Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council needs a few people interested in helping local arts grow. This is a three-year term. Contact Rob Hauck at hauckr@gmail.com or phone 508-684-8045.

The Martha’s Vineyard Neighborhood Convention is observing its 125th season. The first program of the season will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church on Spring street in Tisbury, hosted by Reverend Leo Christian. The topic will be Martha’s Vineyard Mediation Program by Sarah Barnes.

Jennifer Staples returned to her home in Los Angeles this past week after spending the past three months with her mother Kristina Ann Kestenbaum Williams Hook Leslie while they worked their first full season at Bowen’s Arrow gift shop at the cliffs. Kristina’s grandson Darrius Lewis will return to his home in Philadelphia this week, accompanied on his journey by his brother Philip.
