Tonight's full moon, the Ice Moon, appears in the zodiacal constellation Gemini. The moon rises in the east at about sunset and it will remain in the sky all night. At midnight, the moon will be overhead near our zenith.
As the moon rises in the East and appears above the horizon it will appear large. Gradually its apparent size gets smaller. The change in size is in us.
If there is snow on the ground, the moon will clearly create shadows on the landscape.
The brightest planet in the west is Venus. There is no mistaking it. The planet is considerably higher in the sky than it was a month ago and will keep getting higher as we move into spring.
Venus will be at its highest in March and April and then it sinks dramatically. Next summer, Venus is a morning planet.20.
