Ever since the death of Tony Meyer in 2009, a group of his friends have gathered from across the country in South Carolina for an October golf tournament. The four-day event is filled with colorful stories about Tony, and vivid memories of his antics on and off the golf course

What is often most fondly recalled is his generosity to others and his affection for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club, of which he was a major supporter.

The annual golf tournament takes a great deal of planning. This year the element of travel became quite an issue. Sadly, it was decided that the 11th annual Meyer Golf Tournament could not be held this year in South Carolina.

Then someone came up with the idea to have the event held in a different kind of way. Everyone would play their home course on a given day, submit their scores, and the team totals would be announced, and the winners’ names inscribed on the perpetual trophy for eternal glory.

Furthermore, it was decided that the usual “entry fee” for the event, instead of going to event-related expenses, would be sent by all of Tony’s pals to the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club.

So Tony Meyer lives on and is still responsible for helping kids at the Boys and Girls Club, which was really one of his top priorities in his life.
