The moon and Mars will be together on Wednesday evening, the evening before Thanksgiving. Take a look and you may notice that Mars has lost the brilliance it had a month ago. The moon passes by Mars, and is closest on Wednesday but you get a good view of the two on the nights on either side.

Mars is just not as bright. For those of us with telescopes, the planet is farther away and thus smaller. The planet is 59 million miles away. That is a big difference from 38 million in early October.
Nonetheless, the planet still dominates our evening sky.

Saturn and Jupiter are now low in the southwestern sky just after sunset. The two are so close together and getting closer. Jupiter is the brighter of the two.
