Tides will get extreme in the coming week, with both unusually high and low tides, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, when the moon is both close and full.
The tides will be highest around noon and midnight, and lowest at dawn and dusk. Shellfishermen who like to go wandering out in the shellfish flats will like next week. Sand bars that are usually underwater will appear.

The moon will be in perigee on Wednesday, close to the earth and only 223,667 miles away. For purposes of comparison, the moon on June 8 was 252,417 miles away. You’ll hear some folks at the Old Farmer’s Almanac refer to the full moon on Thursday as a Super Strawberry Moon. Here on the Vineyard we call it a Super Summer Moon, since it is not far from the start of summer at 11:32 p.m., Sunday, June 20.
