Tonight is the night of the fireworks in Oak Bluffs. Take this moment to look beyond the nearby fireworks display and for there is a stellar showing going on over your head.

If the sky is clear enough, the stars will be brilliant tonight. There is no brilliant moon to compete for attention. You could see the Milky Way band as it runs from the northeastern sky to the southern sky.

Amid the stars of the Milky Way look for the Summer Triangle, three of the bright stars of summer assembled together, high in the sky. The brightest is Vega, nearly overhead. Vega is in the constellation Lyra, a mythological harp. Vega is one of the brightest stars of summer. Then there is Altair to the south, the bright star in the constellation Aquila, a constellation depicting a mythological bird.

The third star is Deneb and it is the brightest star in the constellation Cygnus, also known as the Northern Cross.

The show isn’t just tonight; it continues through summer.
