The Edgartown select board appointed Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty to the role of affordable housing representative on the Community Preservation Committee (CPC), replacing Tim Rush who stepped down earlier this spring.
Mr. Moriarty is a longtime resident and a former sitting judge on the Island’s superior court, first purchasing a home here in 1986. Select board members commented on his aptitude for the role as an Edgartown local and well-known figure on the Island.
“I think he’s well-qualified for the role,” town administrator James Hagerty said over the phone.
The CPC was born out of Massachusetts’ Community Preservation Act, which works to help communities preserve natural spaces, sites of historical importance, and affordable housing options.
Mr. Moriarty joins chairman Mark Hess, Jason Mazar-Kelly, Christina Brown and others on the committee, which also represents affordable housing interests on the CPC.
