The Martha’s Vineyard Hospital radiology department is now offering a new screening process to detect the presence of coronary heart disease. The exam, known as computed tomography angiography (CTA), uses a computed tomography scanner as a less invasive way to detect blocked arteries and other heart issues.

The CTA scan is also capable of doing calcium scores to determine if patients have a plaque buildup.

Making the service available on-Island means that local residents now have access to a comprehensive screening without going off-Island for the service and incurring the associated expenses associated with that travel. The new process is made possible through a partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital.

The hospital can schedule up to four CTA exams per day. Appointments can be made by calling 508-693-0410.
