Artists and florists will team up this Father’s Day weekend for Blooming Art, the Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club’s biggest event of the year, in a unique and colorful display of Island talent.

Garden club leaders assigned 38 members to artwork created by 36 Island artists and challenged them to design floral arrangements inspired by each piece. The pairings will be showcased and for sale at the historic Old Mill in West Tisbury on June 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10.

“This is our 22nd year of Blooming Art,” said Donna Arold, programs chair and vice president of communications for the garden club. “We started prepping way back in January. There’s about 20 to 25 of us club members who collectively work on it.”

Ms. Arold joined the garden club in 2019 shortly after moving to the Island from New Jersey. She has been in garden clubs in the past, but being a member of the oldest conservation group on the Island is particularly special, she said.

After the garden club went quiet during the pandemic, Ms. Arold was determined to help bring the Blooming Art event back in full force — last year’s event drew 461 attendees and brought in over $10,000. This year, the club will also conduct a silent auction for an Allen Whiting painting. Visitors can place bids during all three days and the winner will be contacted after the event.

“I love talking to the people who come through,” Ms. Arold said of the event. “It was so much fun to be there last year and see the people excited and loving the art. Everybody looks so happy.”
