The Martha’s Vineyard boys tennis season came to a close after a hard-fought 4-1 loss against top seeded Weston High School in the state Division III semifinals Tuesday afternoon.

The final match comes at the end of the team’s powerhouse season, which included a 12–4 recorded and claimed the Cape and Islands Championship. The team’s three postseason victories brought that record up to 15–4.

On Tuesday, Weston swept the singles matches and won the second doubles match.

First doubles claimed the lone victory for the Island, winning in a third-set tiebreaker.

“It was a tough fight,” coach Nicole Macy said. “The singles players from Weston are all amazing.”

The players are already looking ahead to next year. The varsity team is made up of six juniors and one sophomore, so the entire starting lineup will be back.

“Everybody has already committed to working hard in the off season and taking the whole tournament next year,” Coach Macy said.
