In the coming weeks, Circuit Arts will offer a series of events for Islanders looking to celebrate Halloween.

The first is a showing on Oct. 25 of the iconic horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, a silent film from 1920. Bill Peek will accompany the film on the organ at the The First Congregational Church of West Tisbury with a score he composed himself.

“It’s one of those movies that defines movies because it’s the first true horror film. It’s a silent classic,” said Isabella Iaccarino, the marketing and production coordinator at Circuit Arts. “We found out a couple years ago that Bill Peek was doing this, so obviously we wanted to help him produce this, and it became a hit.”

Circuit Arts will also present a theatrical performance as part of Spirits & Spirits nights at the Grange Hall, along with a select offering of seasonal drinks and snacks. The show, directed by Brooke Hartman Ditchfield, will bring the work of several classic writers including Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft and Roald Dahl, to the stage with musical accompaniment. The three performances will also include excerpts from Welcome to Nightvale, a popular paranormal fiction podcast.

“It’s going to be a really fun night, and I think it will be a great add to the Halloween events on Island,” Ms. Iaccarino said, adding that there are few theatrical events as part of Island Halloween festivities. “We are very giddy about putting this event on because we feel that it will be something really special.”

Ms. Iaccarino recommends the shows for audience members 13 years and older.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari will be screened at The First Congregational Church of West Tisbury on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

Spirits & Spirits takes place Wednesday, Oct. 30, Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 12, with all showings beginning at 6 p.m.
