Almost sounds treasonous now
but I wonder if we can make
common goodness attractive again
like it was often back in the day
glowing among many with nothing,
many with enough, and many with too much
You know just being good:
honest (most of time)
sympathetic (even if not empathetic)
tolerant (even if not embracing)
sane (within generous latitudes)
considerate (even if not compassionate)
You get the idea
not exactly walking on water
but trying to walk upright
instinctively modest and fair
resistant to manipulators
stopping to give a listen to another
Goodness ambassadors
hiking through the smouldering
ruins of America’s contraction
aware of the times that we’re in
but busy sending out to the nation
a simple but powerful example.
